March 19th, 2010 we headed up to DC for Kyerin's baby shower. Although Kyerin's husband (John Moody) is from Jacksonville, FL he has a lot of family in the DC area, so that's where the baby shower was. The night we got there, his uncle (also named John) was having a birthday party/house warming party. We were hoping to stay at the Palomar at Dupont Circle but it was full, so we got a room at the Palomar in Arlington and it worked out perfectly because our hotel was in the same building as their condo/party!! We checked into our room and literally walked next door.

This was the view from their rooftop patio where Uncle John's birthday party was. They had the most delicious cupcakes (definately up there with Sprinkles). They were from a little coffee shop in Georgetown on M street called Baked and Wired. Sooooo tasty!!

Aunt Hailey is the best!!

I think Jack missed the memo that he had to SHARE this bed with Hailey...
Saturday March 20th

The next morning Uncle John took us to breakfast at a fantastic little place on M street... can't remember what it's called. But we walked from his apt (our hotel) across Key Bridge when we spotted some rowers out for a morning outing.

Thank you Francis Scott Key for such an inspired, wonderful song!!

Our bellies are full as we head back over the bridge. Thanks John for good food and good company.
Later that afternoon we headed to Maryland where Kyerin's baby shower was being held.

It's been a long time since Jack and Maddie had seen each other. They were in heaven.

Hailey, John, Kyerin (and baby Morgan)

John Moody really wanted a boy. So to make this 2nd girl transition a little easier, my mother in law Suzanne made this adorable quilt with dump trucks and front loaders! Isn't she the best? After John opened his presents all the boys went to ESPN zone to watch March Madness.

Madi and Jack... 2 excellent helpers.

I know boys aren't usually allowed at baby showers, so we helped Jonah feel more welcome by dressing him in Morgan's clothes!!

Melanie, Kyerin, Hailey

Cupcakes with edible, glittery animals were brought in from the famous "Georgetown Cupcakes" located on M street. The lemon were better than the chocolate, but over all not all they're cracked up to be. Baked and Wired and Sprinkles are WAY better in my personal opinion.

After the baby shower we were planning on going back to the hotel and hanging out there, but John Moody's family was so gracious and let us stay there for dinner and yet another game of March Madness. BYU lost tonight.
Sunday March 21st

The next morning we were getting ready to leave. Hailey decided she needed to help Jack and Madison roll down the hill at Kathy and Jim's house.

View of DC temple from the free way.

Spring was everywhere. I was so sad we missed the Cherry Blossom Festival by just a few weeks... someday I'll be in DC for the famous cherry blossoms.

We really wanted to go to the monuments and hangout there, but we spent too much time just chatting around the breakfast table. By the time we got downtown there was NO parking to be found on this beautiful Sunday morning. But Hailey still really wanted her "DC hotdog", so we pulled over in some random "do not park" zone and she got herself a hot dog!! She had 2 little mouths that happily accepted bites when offered. Hopefully being with Kyerin this weekend will help her get through the next few weeks (until she gets to go home). Poor Hailey's been really homesick lately.

Jonah was highly entertained by our case of DVD's.

When we pulled into Durham, this is what we saw! Aren't those red light poles so cool?
Spring is everywhere and I love it. We dropped Hailey off at home and went straight over the the Ririe residence for our "Pie/pi day celebration"
