CA Highlights

After 10 weeks working in AZ, we went to CA for a few weeks to work at a different law firm. We stayed with my sister, Shera and Danny Walker and their cute family. We absolutely fell in love with CA and are currently interviewing there for jobs after law school. We'll see what happens. Anyway here's a smorgasbord of fun.
On April 30th (our 3rd anniversary) I gave John tickets to Wicked (knowing we'd be in Hollywood in a few months). So here we are 3 months later celebrating! John picked a yummy Italian place for us to eat and it was called "Bella's". I asked him if he purposefully chose that restaurant cuz he was dying to read Breaking Dawn (it came out a few days later). He just rolled his eyes and tried to convince me that he didn't even know the name of the place when he was on line looking for somewhere to go. (Ya right!!)
We had such a fun time and needless to say, Wicked was AMAZING.
One Saturday while in CA we went to Huntington Beach. We walked on the pier and watched people catch fish, play sand volleyball games, and then went to the water for a little of our own fun! Jack wanted mommy to notice that he had sand on his hand. He was very concerned!
Our first couple days in CA, my sister and her family were gone at a family reunion. And since we were staying with them, they graciously let us into their home even though they weren't there. Our first night there we were dying to go to the beach. For FHE we picked up a pizza, drove down to the beach and sad on this awesome grassy hill and watched the sunset. We played catch, watched the birds fly over the ocean, and enjoyed the perfect CA weather. After coming from 10 weeks in AZ, we were so excited to finally be outside and not sweat to death!
Building sand castles with daddy.
Figuring out this new feeling between the toes!
Why is it that when you go to the beach, you always bring more than you can carry? This particular day we went with my sister Amber and her kids. She brought them to CA for a little vacation and we had such a blast. Anyway, as it was time to leave, we prepared for the walk across the sand, up the stairs, around the zigzag sidewalk, and through the parking lot to the car. Everyone started loading up their arms with chairs, camera, coolers of food, boogie boards, towels, umbrellas and all that other junk you bring to the beach. Jack was throwing a fit saying "No, don't wann it!" He kept pulling on a towel I had wrapped around my neck. I assumed he was crying because he wanted to stay at the beach and of course at this point my arms were full, my baby was screaming everyone else had headed back to the car with their heavy loads; I couldn't just pick him up and carry him. Anyway, I bent down and said, "Jack, what's wrong?" He quickly replied, "Help!" I said, "Jack, Mommy can't help you right now it's time to go!" He continued to pull on the towel and it was then that I realized... HE wanted to help carry something! As soon as I gave him a bag of beach toys to drag through the sand, up the stairs and across the parking lot to the car, he was happy as a could be. Moral of the story: I can't wait till he can fully communicate. Poor little guy, all he wanted was to carry something back to the car like everyone else was... He's such a big helper!
While we were there, we experienced our first earth quake. My sister, Shera and I were in the kitchen making lunch for the kids and I was pretty sure the Incredible Hulk was trying to bust through her kitchen floor because he really wanted a tuna fish sandwich. Come to find out, it was just a category 5 earthquake (is that how you say it?). I guess when there's an earth quake you're suppose to go outside just in case the after shock is worse than the actual earthquake. Anyway, here we are... enjoying the beautiful CA summer day. Everyone was fine, but if you can't tell by some of the kid's faces, some of them were a little scared! And little Andrew just wanted some pretzels.
One night, the Walkers took us to the beach for a "Crab Cookout". We reserved a fire pit and Danny brought a huge pot. We threw some seaweed, potatoes, corn on the cob, a few crabs, and scallops, and a few more things and ate delicious dinner. After that we roasted mallows in the coals (and that's what's all over Jack's face). Towards the end of the night the kids got a little tired, sandy, and cold but overall, we had a great night.

Cooper

Still catching up...
So my brother Al and wife Erica went to California for the 4th of July and they needed a sitter for their little dog cooper. Jack wasn't all that fond of dogs, in fact quite fearful, but since John and I were the only ones around for the 4th of July, we didn't really have a choice. I've never really been a fan of dogs, but I really like Cooper. Jack became VERY good friends VERY quickly.

I put a bowl down for Cooper to get a drink, but Jack found it first.
Then cooper came... wanting a little drink of his own. Sweet little Jack thought it would be so helpful to spoon feed Cooper, his own water. Cooper wasnt' a fan of the spoon. But neither was Jack at this point.

Jack Loves Cooper!

4th of July

4th of July we spent at our cabin in Pine AZ. Since it was on a Friday we had a nice long weekend to enjoy the festivities. John got off work Thursday and we stayed in Mesa that night and had our own family BBQ, went swimming, and rented a movie. It's the first time just our little family was alone since we came to AZ and we had such a fun night. We met my brother Dave and his family and my sister Jana and her family up there and had a blast. This 4th of July was definately up there on our top 3 EVER.
We enjoyed the traditional flag sugar cookie.
Ate yummy watermelon...

And took lots of pictures at this beautiful park were we thought we'd enjoy the fireworks.
My sister Jana and her 2 girls, Bekah and Mikayla.
Daddy and Jack
Jack and the Soelberg boys: Josh, Jake, Jess! We stayed with the Dave and Shelle Soelberg family for a couple weeks while my parent's basement was remodled. We had so much fun getting to know their family a little better and Jack still asks for "Josh, Jake and Jess".
Jack was a little distracted by all that was going on. But we got a few good ones before the storm hit...
It came on so quickly. We could see the clouds getting darker and darker, then all the sudden it was coming down in buckets! Everyone picked up a kid and started running for cover! Shelle had Sadie and John had Jack. Luckly I just had the camera and stopped under someone's tent to snap a quick photo! It was a mad dash...

We were freezing and wet. We wanted to wait out the storm to see the fireworks, but there was no sign of it slowing down. So we went to the nearest Wendy's and waited and waited and waited for our food. They seriously took 45 minutes for us to get a single french fry! Thank goodness I had a few Coco puffs in my purse!

The rain did stop and for those of us who weren't too freezing, we stayed and enjoyed the fireworks. My sweet sister, Jana and her husband McKay went back to the cabin with thier kids and took Jack home to bed. John and I had a lovely evening under the stars... well fireworks I guess. It was so fun.

Arizona wrap up--

So, I'm still alive! Yes, it's been a while but after a few weeks without the internet, leaving Arizona, to living in California for a few weeks, to visiting family in Idaho, and back to North Carolina to start school, I figure I had a pretty good excuse. While I was growing up I prefered the journals with loose leaf papers because when I got so far behind with my journaling, I knew I could write something important on that day and always go back and give further details when I had more time. If I had a binded journal I just wouldn't do it because the feeling of "catching up" would always overwhelm me. Call me crazy, but knowing that I could insert a story and keep it in chronological order, made me feel so much better. Not sure why, but it did. I say that partly cuz that's how I've felt with this whole summer keeping up with our blog. But when you think about it, who really cares? Anyway, I hope to get back into the swing of things, but in the mean time, here's a little about the end of our summer in AZ.

We spent majority of our summer in AZ. We lived with my parents for 9 weeks while John worked for Lewis and Roca (a law firm in Phoenix). While we were there we had a lot of good times, took a lot of pictures, and stayed extremely busy. Here's a quick wrap up of our time in AZ...

We love any excuse to get together for a sister's luncheon. Whether it's a birthday, someone visiting from out of town, or simply cuz Shelle got her braces off... we love getting together. The decision of where to eat was undoubtedly Crackers Cafe... every time! So yummy.

This is a typical Sunday evening at my parent's house. After dinner, the grandkids usually go outside for a little play time, and as soon as they hear "Dessert is served" they come running. They know right where to find G&G Soelberg dishing up the goods!

Why the heck not? My sister in law Erica called one morning and said, "I'm going to try out for Arizona Idol, come with me!" So, my sister Ashlyn and I decided it would be fun to go support Erica and cheer her on while she tried out. But, with along enough drive and a little convincing on her part, Ashlyn and I ended up auditioning. We had such a fun time together and after all... why the heck not?
For father's day, John was convinced that all he wanted were these workout videos he saw on an infomercial on ESPN. They're called P90X. It started off as a joke, we were just going to try their 90day trial, but we really got into them. They come with 12 different workour videos focusing of different parts of the body. There's legs and glutes, arms and back, abs, .... Actually, I woke up one morning at 6am with Jack and my mom was doing the cardio workout in our upstairs living room! Pretty much, the whole family got into them and they became quite the entertainment. One morning 4 of us sisters got together and did the 1 1/2 hour YOGA video. I'm not quite sure what all the kids were going at that time, but we sure enjoyed doing Yoga on my parent's big TV! Anyway, Jack never likes to be left out of a party, so he was doing stretches with mommy!
No more cake! In the summer time, our family pretty much has a birthday at least once a week! Not really, but we did celebrate quite a few while we were there. We were in CA for 3 weeks and missed 4 sister's birthdays that lived in AZ: Jana (July 24th), Amber (Aug. 2nd), Ashlyn (Aug. 7th), and Erica (Aug 9th). Plus there was Jenica's on July 28th and Adena's is on Aug 5th! I guess that's what happens when there's so many of us... It's fun.

AmyLyn came down for a week while we were there and I'm pretty sure she was cutting hair the entire time she was there. If you look closely on the clock in the back ground, it's 12:03AM! What better time to cut hair? I love her sweet beauty school skills :-)

My cute nephew Braiden Duffy and Uncle Johnny show off their gorgeous curls!! I can't get enough of these curls!

A few of my cute nieces. We loved having the Duffy family come visit over the summer. ... Bethany Duffy, Mikayla Marriott, Emma Adams, Kourtney Maughan.
