We've been wanting to get together with some of John's cousins. He has one cousin in DC, another one in Columbus OH, and we are in Durham NC.... so we decided to meet in the middle. We rented a cabin in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. It's was about 4 hours from all of us, and the PERFECT set up. There were 5 "cabins" or "cottages" and a HUGE grassy area. Each cabin had it's own fire pit, gas grill, and access to volleyball, horse shoes, crochet, canoes, footballs, mountain bikes... etc. It was awesome :-)

This is the view from our back patio... Gorgeous :-)
Between sessions, we took advantage of the free amenities included in the cabin rental. Croquet, mtn bikes, canoes, horse shoes, volleyball etc...
Gas grill was included so we of course we HAD to use it! Some day John... oh he wants a grill so badly :-) Pasta salad, baked spuds, and Ka-Bobs!

our back patio (You can see Jack peaking through the railing...was yelling "Come up here mommy. I need you to play baseball wiss me!")
After dinner we tried to play crochet... but it got too dark. So we came inside, turned on the fire place, put the kids to bed and played "Killer Bunnies" Funny game. Thanks for sharing Mandie.
Out here in the east coast, conference doesn't start until noon, so cooked a huge breakfast in our cottage and went on a little sunday morning "nature walk"... it turned out to be a little more of a hike than we expected!!
The beginning...
The whole gang!
Jack's continual "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..." up the hill was very encouraging!
There was TONZ of moss all over the trail.
We almost ran into this HUGE spider's web right in our path.
We found these cool "Tarzan" ropes... we had to try them out!

We played crochet!
I guess John wasn't too happy with that shot! At one point Jack asked, "Daddy, why are you so behind all those other people?!" We all laughed... but John ended up winning, so I guess it payed off!
The girls! John's cousin, Natalie, me and cousin-in-law Mandie and her daughter Mikaya.
We drove up to these pretty falls and said good bye. From there Mandie and Johnathan and Nick and Natalie drove home.
Nice face Jack :-)... not quite sure what that is!
Everyone left Sunday night (except John and I). We stayed until Monday morning so we could see the leaves on our drive home. It was BEAUTIFUL!!
We passed this cool looking mtn. on the drive home. We has such a fabulous weekend full of family, food and fun! I LOVE conference weekend, but turns out the more kids you have, the less you hear!! Thank goodness for modern tech. You can watch and read it as much as we want! Can't wait to get the Ensign.

Then we watched conference, and Jack kept quiet watching some tv of his own!

you have such a beautiful family Melanie. Your boys are just adorable. That looked like a fun way to spend conference. And it's so true, the more kids you have the harder it is to hear it :)
Seriously - I didn't get much out of conference this time! Kids are a pretty big distraction! It looks like you had so much fun wherever you were! Beautiful!! I was laughing pretty hard at Jack's face...so glad you pointed that out, I would have totally missed it. It was fun to see John, although we didn't feel like we spent any time with him! We were kind of sad. Hope you held up ok!
You guys really are livin' it up over there during Law School! How amazing...and to think you'll be on the west coast, livin' it up some more...what a dreamy, glamorous life you lead! Great family pictures, and you look gorgeous in the one with Jackers on your shoulders...can't wait to see you in SEVEN weeks...
Looks like you guys have had a grand ole time traveling. What fun places you have adventured to! I'm glad you went to florida for us, that was one place we didn't get too. i just pictured greasy men and crowds, so I didn't make the effort. And, maybe we didn't have the hook up you did.
