Making Bread with Grandma

Wednesday morning my sister, Jana and I headed over to Grandma Ray's to learn the art of home made white bread. When we asked her (months ago) for the recipe, she laughed and said, I don't have a recipe!! So, we went over to be her kneaders and write down "fist fulls" and "abouts" with her very simple but delicious bread.
A little yeast, sugar, water, oil, flour, salt.... it was so fun to see her hands turn that dough just like I remember watching years ago when I was a little girl.
One batch of her bread made about 12 loaves. She did that TWICE a week to feed her family of 10 kids. Watching her in the kitchen, you would have never known she hasn't made bread in a very long time. It was second nature pouring all those ingredients into her big stainless steel bowl.
We quilted while the bread baked, but the boys could hardly leave the kitchen they were so excited. They each made their own little loaves, and were so proud.
Jonah, Jack, Spencer (Joseph was as preschool).
Their patience paid off! They scarfed that loaf of bread while it was hardly cool enough to touch. No butter, no jam. Fresh out of the oven, just how we like it! Thank you Grandma Ray. We might have to come back next week...

That's how Kolby's mom cooks - oh just a pinch of this, then sometimes I add this too. It's impossible to get a recipe from her, which stinks because it's all so yummy! You and your boys are so cute. I love your bangs!
